Prof Philip Poortmans speaks to ecancer in an online interview for the virtual BGICC 2021 meeting about re-irradiation in breast cancer.
Prof Poortmans explains that the choice to re-irradiate depends on individual circumstances and it is difficult to give broad advice. He covers some of the factors to consider, giving an example from his experience and talking about some of the potential complications, and some alternative therapy options if re-irradiation is not suitable. He also discusses some relevant ongoing research.
Prof Poortmans concludes by saying that patient selection is key and stresses throughout to involve the patient in the discussion.
