SIOG 2024: Updates in medical oncology
Dr Mehra Golshan speaks to ecancer in an online interview for the virtual BGICC 2021 meeting about the role of neo-adjuvant therapy and breast conservation.
Dr Golshan summarises some recent developments in these practices before talking about his own work on studies looking at surgical decision making on breast conservation around neo-adjuvant therapies. They were surprised to find that many women chose to have a mastectomy despite being eligible for breast conservation surgery.
He concludes by saying that they still need to do more research on the reasons for surgical decision making in breast cancer around neo-adjuvant therapy, noting some of the limitations of the initial trials and the changes made to the follow-up BrighTNess trial.
