Dr Israel Fernandez-Pineda talks about ecancer special issue on international society of paediatric surgical oncology (IPSO) minimally invasive surgery (MIS) guidelines.
Dr Fernandez-Pineda says that paediatric oncology surgeons are essential in the diagnosis, staging, and management of malignant solid tumours, and recent treatment protocols increasingly emphasise individualised surgical strategies for both primary and metastatic disease.
As minimally invasive surgery (MIS) becomes more widely adopted in paediatric practice, its role in oncology continues to expand, though high-quality evidence remains limited for many tumour types.
Dr Fernandez-Pineda highlights the IPSO-MIS guidelines and provides practical, scenario-based recommendations for the use of MIS in paediatric solid tumours.
The guidelines aim to support safe, effective, and context-appropriate surgical decision-making and to enhance outcomes for children with cancer worldwide.
