Dr Ana Botero - Memorial Healthcare System, Hollywood, FL, USA

Dr Ana Botero speaks to ecancer at the 2019 ASCO Direct Highlights Symposium in Miami about the radiation oncology highlights from this year's meeting.

She begins by describing the NSABP-39 study, which looked at the effects of partial breast radiation therapy compared to whole breast radiation therapy in patients with early-stage breast cancer.

Dr Botero also discusses another study which compared transoral robotic surgery (TORS) to combined chemoradiation therapy in patients with squamous cell carcinoma.

Moving onto locally advanced lung cancer, she also describes a study which evaluated the incorporation of checkpoint inhibitors with chemoradiation therapy - which so far is displaying some benefit in the local control of the disease.

Lastly, Dr Botero discusses the use of whole-brain radiation and stereotaxic radiation therapy to treat brain metastases.
