Feasibility and safety of boost at 74 Gy based on interim FDG-PET during thoracic radio-chemotherapy for NSCLC patients
Dr Stephen Chun speaks to ecancer about his talk at WCLC 2023 on the long-term outcomes by radiation technique for locally advanced non-small lung cancer.
Based on initial trial stratification, the study compared the 5-year outcomes of patients who received IMRT versus those who received three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy.
Dr Chun explains the results support the general premise that IMRT may be superior to 3D-CRT for reducing toxicities in certain malignancies, particularly to minimise the risk of severe pulmonary toxicity and radiation exposure to the heart.
He concludes by discussing the potential impact of these findings on future treatment options for NSCLC patients.
