Dr Natalia Gandur speaks to ecancer about the key bladder cancer and urothelial carcinoma updates presented at ASCO 2026.
She explains that the central theme this year was the integration of systemic therapy, surgery, bladder preservation, toxicity management and patient-centred care across the urothelial cancer pathway.
Dr Gandur discusses the long-term follow-up of enfortumab vedotin plus pembrolizumab in metastatic urothelial carcinoma, the expansion of this combination into perioperative muscle-invasive bladder cancer, emerging bladder-preservation strategies, and novel immunotherapy approaches.
She also highlights the growing importance of health-related quality of life, biomarkers, toxicity monitoring, multidisciplinary coordination and equitable access as treatment options become increasingly complex.
