Prof Ahlam Dohal - King Fahd Specialised Hospital Dammam, Dammam, Saudi Arabia

Prof Ahlam Dohal speaks to ecancer at BGICC 2023 about the advancements in radiotherapy for breast cancer patients.

She explains the latest advancements in radiotherapy have meant a five day treatment duration instead of five weeks.

Prof Dohal also highlights the positive impact BGICC 2023 made in bringing together a variety of information and training for treating breast and gynaecological cancers.

BGICC is one of the greatest conferences, putting together the information for all aspects of treating breast cancers and gynaecological cancers and now it’s extending to other things. We had workshops for surgical reconstruction, brachytherapy, radiation treatment, everything. They’re doing training, not only a conference.

Today we heard about the advancement in radiation treatment for breast cancer which is a very hot topic now. It’s how we can shorten the duration of radiation treatment and give it in five days instead of five weeks. That study proved that the results are equal but it’s way more convenient for the patient to have five consecutive treatments, finishing it in one week, and then they will be done with the radiation, compared to the old style of five weeks of radiation treatment, 25 days happening, which is great to hear about from the leaders in radiation treatment.
