Prof Arthur Sun Myint - Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Clatterbridge, UK

Prof Arthur Sun Myint speaks to ecancer as part of ASCO GI 2022 about the OPERA study which looked at the role of radiation dose escalation using Contact X-ray brachytherapy (CXB) in order to avoid surgery in rectal cancer.

He explains that patients were randomised between two arms: Arm A (standard of care with EBRT boost) and Arm B (experimental with CXB boost).

Prof Myint reports that surgical treatment is feasible and failures can still be salvaged with chances of survival not compromised.
