Ms Soumita Ghose - Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, India

Soumita Ghose speaks to ecancer about her study regarding a public policy analysis with key stakeholders’ insights to understand India’s compliance to the WHO framework convention on tobacco control.

She explains that the present paper analysed the data from qualitative interviews of experts working in the field of tobacco control alongside a critical analysis of the national tobacco control policy of India.

Ms Ghose then discusses the results obtained from this study. She says that the control of a tobacco epidemic has multiple structural and functional challenges embedded in the complexity of the public-private interfaces, socio-economic forces, conflicting interests of the stakeholders and the diverse nature of the problem.

She concludes by mentioning that any intervention planned to reduce tobacco usage at a population level need to take the factors listed in the study into consideration.
