Dr Siddhartha Kar studied medicine at the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College and trained clinically at the Sassoon General Hospitals in Pune, India. He holds a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas at Houston in the US, where he was a Dean's Scholar and pursued graduate research training in genomics at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He received his PhD in cancer genetic epidemiology from the University of Cambridge in the UK in 2017 as a Gates Cambridge Scholar and Homerton Junior Research Fellow in Clinical Medicine. Dr Kar has been a recipient of competitive conference honours from the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society of Human Genetics during his training. As of 2021, he has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed original research articles on the genetic epidemiology of cancer, including several contributions in key authorship roles.

Dr Kar was awarded a Future Leaders Fellowship by UK Research and Innovation in 2020, enabling him to establish a research group at the University of Bristol that studies inherited genetic variation and leverages this variation to investigate the causes and correlates of tumour genomic features with the aim of informing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of common cancers. He returned to Cambridge as a Group Leader at the Early Cancer Institute in the Department of Oncology in March 2023..In addition to cancer genetic epidemiology, Dr Kar has a keen interest in scientific and healthcare policy in India, has written about this in The Lancet and Nature, and currently maintains full registration as a doctor with the Delhi Medical Council.
