Prof Geetu Bhandoria speaks to ecancer in an online interview about how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the management of cancer patients in India.
He explains that a study found that access to healthcare services has fallen since the pandemic due to travel restrictions and cost, and due to surgeries being disrupted more patients are now receiving chemotherapy who may have avoided it under different circumstances. He adds that it is too soon to say if this has impacted overall survival.
However, he concludes by explaining that the pandemic has provided an opportunity to adopt enhanced recovery practices.
