Dr Veena Shankaran speaks to ecancer about her ASCO 2020 Virtual Meeting presentation on the primary endpoint results for SWOG S1417CD into the cumulative incidence of financial hardship in metastatic colorectal cancer patients.
She outlines that up until now studies into financial hardship of cancer patients have been retrospective and cross-sectional, leaving them prone to inaccuracies and recall bias.
Dr Shankaran explains that the SWOG S1417CD enrolled people at the time of diagnosis and measured their financial experiences going forward on a longitudinal basis.
She reports that of 380 patients who completed the follow up nearly 3/4 of them by the end of the year had experienced significant levels of financial hardship.
