Dr Benjamín Cavenago Salazar speaks to ecancer at the 2019 ecancer-Oncosalud Symposium of Molecular Clinical Oncology in Peru about the importance of symptomatic control, especially in the palliative setting.
He describes there is a lack of understanding of palliative care, as there is a major focus on curative care. He emphasises that attention should be given to this type of care, as older patients are now increasingly affected by oncological diseases - in which curative options remain limited.
In terms of the future, Dr Salazar remains optimistic and believes we are on the right path in addressing this epidemiological transition.
