Prof John Burn of the Institute of Human Genetics, Newcastle University, UK, talks to ecancer editor Prof Gordon McVie about the results and possibilities opened by his trial which investigated the effects aspirin had on chance of contracting colorectal cancer. Although the mechanism of this effect is as yet unknown, Prof Burn suggests this may be related to the pro-apoptotic property of salicylates.
