Dr Sylvie Bonvalot – Institut Gustave Roussy, Paris, France

Dr Sylvie Bonvalot talks with ecancer at the 2012 ESMO meeting in Vienna about the strategy of treatment for desmoid tumours.

Desmoid tumours, a rare type of aggressive tumour, can present in almost any part of the body.

The most important part of diagnosis for this tumour type is testing for a beta kinase mutation that 95% of patients have.

The main advances come specifically in altering strategy on approaching treatment as half of patients receiving treatment cannot continue after the first course because of adverse side effects.
