I presented about strengthening the comprehensive cancer programmes in Indonesia by using tele-mentoring ECHO. You know that Indonesia is a very, very large country and divided by several seas and then we don’t have the facilities, the distribution, the same in every area because of that. We need something that can make our standards to control cancer equal in all areas. Because of that the platform tele-mentoring ECHO is very good for us because we can reach out for the rural and urban areas at the same time and we get the experts for all around Indonesia because cancer is a very multidisciplinary discipline and also have the multiorgan so because of that we need more discipline and more people to talk about cancer.
How has the experience of tele-mentoring by ECHO been so far in Indonesia?
Someone introduced the tele-mentoring ECHO to us about 2020 when COVID struck. Our first programme was in 2021 but the programme was just for the multidisciplinary team approach for breast cancer. But then we saw that these programmes can vary for many, many programmes like for early detection or for promotion and also for diagnostics and not just for breast cancer, we also have the priority for cervical cancer, lung cancer and childhood cancers. We do this also for evaluation monitoring after the training. We train the nurses and also the GPs and then we do this tele-mentoring ECHO to monitor what they can do in their facilities. So that makes us know what the problems are in every area at the same time and also in every CNC cost because there’s no cost for this.
What are the areas of improvements with tele-mentoring?
We know that by this tele-mentoring after we know what every area or facility problems, as the National Cancer Center a mentor for all cancer services around Indonesia, the National Cancer Center can go to the Minister of Health and talk about the problems in the area. Then together with the Minister of Health we can make some guidelines and also we can say the problems to our insurance, national insurance, and that makes some wisdom, some regulation that can improve.
