Adjuvant radiotherapy has no benefit following radical prostatectomy
Prof Kevin Brindle explains how magnetic resonance imaging of cell metabolism, something used since the 1970’s, is now reaching its potential. Prof Brindle is currently using a technique that increases imaging by 10,000 percent and allows for the observation of metabolism in cells in a completely new way.
A clinical trial is currently taking place in the United States to use this method of detection in treatment response. The imaging takes place very early on in treatment, sometimes as early as 24 to 48 hours. Evaluating treatment this early aids in the guiding of therapy and notes how tumours are reacting to the treatment. With this type of imaging, the option to change treatment very early on allows for immediate influence and the potential to start more effective courses immediately.
