Prof Mohamed Desouki - Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, New York

Prof Mohamed Desouki speaks to ecancer about his talks on the diagnostic criteria of serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma at the BGICC 2023.

There is compelling evidence that serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma is a precursor of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. Prof Desouki summarises the updates in the diagnostic criteria of the series.

He also discusses his other talk which looks at the morphological criteria for diagnosing sex cord-stromal tumours.

My other two talks about the GYN pathology, one of them will talk about the precursor lesion for the high-grade serous carcinoma of the ovary. Now there is a lot of literature about the precursor lesion of this high-grade tumour of the ovary which arises from the fallopian tube. This lesion is called serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma, the diagnosis of which is maybe a little bit challenging and there is a lot of inconsistency in the diagnosis. So this talk will try to summarise the updates in the diagnostic criteria of the serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma.

The second talk will talk about one of the rare types of ovarian cancer which is sex cord-stromal tumour. This usually affects the younger age group, maybe in their 20s or even less in age. So the talk will be about the morphologic criteria of diagnosing sex cord-stromal tumours.
