Dr Funmilola Wuraola speaks to ecancer about her ecancermedicalscience article titled 'Breast cancer in elderly patients: a clinicopathological review of a Nigerian database'.

She explains that in Nigeria and other parts of Africa breast cancer is mostly common in middle age and younger patients.

The basis behind this study was to discover more about the subset of older patients.

Dr Wuraola reports that, using a Nigerian database, it was found that the percentage of patients with breast cancer over the age of 65 was 14.3% - a low fraction compared with high-income countries.

She also details that there wasn't a significant difference between this cohort and the younger patients in terms of when they presented, tumour size and the kind of treatment they received.
