Burden and trends of breast cancer worldwide: Opportunities for prevention?
Prof Maria Cardoso talks to ecancer about her talk at BGICC 2022: Update on the new EUSOMA quality indicators for breast cancer.
She begins by talking about the overwhelming changes in breast cancer treatment and how more parameters are needed in order to go further with auditing units.
Prof Cardoso then goes on to explain that the update is mainly in the 3 areas of diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. These modifications are mainly related to the massive overall survival rates in breast cancer when detected early.
She concludes that until now, no system in the world evaluates, as a quality indictor, the patient reported outcomes. That is to say, the opinion of the patient about the way they were treated in a breast unit.
