A diagnostic development tutorial will be held prior to the Innovation and biomarkers in cancer drug development (IBCD) conference in order to address issues critical to understanding the advances, development, limitations, and validation of molecular markers.
This Diagnostic Development Tutorial, “From Hypothesis to Product”, is open to a limited audience and will feature didactic presentations and hands on discussion of real life challenges.
Today, as the number of potential molecular markers discovered in cancer increases dramatically, so too does the need for more focused and systematic translational and clinical research that will enable us to fully implement and utilise these biomarkers.
The Diagnostic Development Tutorial has been developed in recognition of the burgeoning field of molecular markers in cancer as well as the growing need for researchers specifically trained in the development and validation of these markers, and the co-development of treatments.
Clinical researchers in both academia and industry who have elected to focus their work on molecular marker development and validation will be provided with expert guidance and critique in the creation of marker development plans based on a specific clinical scenario.
The faculty accompanying the participants will consist of leading experts from academia, industry and regulators (FDA, EMA).
Working in small teams, participants will devise development plans for assays that will aid clinical decisions related to the choice of therapy, and plan co-development of assays and treatment solutions.
This format will encourage interaction and reflective learning and provide ample opportunity for discussion and faculty feedback.
This Tutorial seeks to facilitate, and hopefully accelerate, future development of molecular markers and targeted drugs for use in the clinical setting.
The tutorial is open to selected early career oncologists/scientists and pharmaceutical industry representatives.
