Severiano Ballesteros was one of the sporting world's greatest and one of golf's most prodigious talents. Known the world over as simply "Seve", the much-loved Spaniard became synonymous with flair, passion and magical shot-making from the moment he burst onto the international scene in 1976.
When he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, Ballesteros said: "Throughout my entire career I have been one of the best at overcoming obstacles on the golf course. And now I want to be the best, facing the most difficult game of my life."
This ambition can be applied to the driving force behind oncology professionals. We strive to be the best at what we do and seek to address the many unresolved questions in cancer in order to advance better, more effective therapeutic options for our patients today, delivering on the promise of personalised medicine for those in the future:
Symposium Synopsis
It is widely accepted that it is no longer enough for cancer researchers to debate and exchange among themselves, it´s all about unravelling, connecting and translating from the bench to the bedside ´in loop´. The latest advances in research must consequently continue to be more quickly applied at clinical level and back again within a multidisciplinary setting. The outcomes of such essential exchange must be harnessed, presented and discussed - the very reason behind this symposium.
The third edition of the Seve Ballesteros Foundation Symposium on Brain Cancer will reflect the essence of the 22nd Biennial Congress of the European Association of Cancer Research (EACR): From Basic Research to Personalised Cancer Treatment, and in so doing, provide unparalleled opportunity to share and promote the advancement of brain cancer research, embracing a purely translational vision.
The Seve Ballestros Foundation pledges to be on course to beat brain cancer. As professionals in neuro-oncology we represent the field that will mark the many advances necessary to tackle this disease quite literally head-on, one patient at a time.
