Translational Cancer Research for Basic Scientists
30 Oct - 4 Nov 2011
Omni Parker House Hotel, Boston, MA, United States of America
Hosted in close collaboration with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Cancer Center, comprised of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Boston, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
The goals of this workshop are to provide early-career basic research scientists with a better understanding of translational research, to teach them how to adapt their research for maximum clinical impact, and to help them transition into a new career in translational cancer medicine.
In addition, this workshop will focus on addressing many aspects of translational research such as collaborations, team science, introducing non-clinicians to the needs and environment of the clinic, and providing researchers with exposure to patients to help place their work in context.
During the course of the week, attendees will gain perspective and background knowledge of the disease from translational scientists, clinicians, and patients, while learning about the latest methods and approaches in cutting-edge translational cancer research.
Our first workshop on this subject, held in October 2010, was very well-received and had overwhelmingly positive feedback. The program consisted of over 25 faculty members for core lecturing, nearly 15 additional healthcare professionals participating as lab/discussion leaders, and more than 35 clinicians supervising offsite visits.
