Prostate Cancer in Africa: Connecting Basic Research to Clinical Impact
29 Jan 2019
Sheraton Abuja Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria
We invite researchers, clinicians, advocates, trainees, and other health professionals to attend a one-day symposium about current practices in prostate cancer in the areas of Oncology Practice, Clinical Research, Genomics and Epidemiology, and Prevention & Screening.
The Men of African Descent and Carcinoma of the Prostate (MADCaP) Consortium is collaborating on epidemiological and genomic studies to address the high burden of prostate cancer in men of African descent. MADCaP investigators are interested in understanding the complex multifactorial causes of prostate cancer etiology and outcomes among men of African ancestry worldwide.
Formed in 2007, the consortium includes investigators from the United States, United Kingdom, and Africa who lead cohort or case-control studies on prostate cancer in men of African descent. The investigators share common interests in studying health disparities, underserved populations, and the role that genetic and non-genetic factors play in prostate cancer disparities. MADCaP collaborative research is intended to improve prostate cancer prevention, detection, and treatment in men of the African diaspora. A major goal is to discover and understand genomic regions associated with prostate cancer risk in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) using large sample sizes. Participation in the MADCaP Consortium is open to all investigators who are interested in addressing the problem of prostate cancer in African descent men.
