Introduction, Anatomy, Physiology & Aetiology

This e-learning course covers best practices in breast cancer surgery. Experts from across the UK have contributed to ensure this course meets the educational needs of post-graduate surgical trainees looking to extend their knowledge on surgery in breast cancer. Developed in partnership between ecancer and Health Education South West to form an educational partnership called ePOSSOM. 

The first module provides an introduction to the anatomy, physiology and aetiology of breast cancer tumours.

This course was developed to support the professional development of post-graduate surgical trainees.

Objetivos educativos

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Refresh your anatomy knowledge of the breast and axilla.
  • Understand the effect of endogenous and exogenous hormones on breast physiology and the evidence behind recommendations for contraception and HRT in women.
  • Develop an awareness of the risk factors and genetics of breast cancer to identify women at high risk of the disease.
  • Be aware of the different ways that breast cancer develops and the implication of the different molecular and histological subtypes in treatment and prognosis.
