Dr Caroline Robert - Institute Gustave Roussy, Paris, France; Prof Alexander Eggermont - Erasmus University of Rotterdam, Netherlands

Dr Caroline Robert and Prof Alexander Eggermont speak about some extremely positive early results, presented at ESMO 2010, of a phase I / II trial of GSK2118436, a new BRAF kinase inhibitor for melanoma patients with brain metastases. Dr Robert and Prof Eggermont discuss this drug, explaining what is known of its mode of action and compare it with existing medications. A second study was presented at the ESMO melanoma session, demonstrating that ipilimumab also had beneficial effects on patients with brain metastases. Prof Eggermont explains why these results could have significant implications not just for melanoma but for many tumour types.
