Dr Sergey Sulima - Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Lueven, Belgium

Dr Sulima speaks with ecancer at EHA 23 about the downstream effects of ribosomal mutations, which can contribute to the development of cancer.

He describes how, from mouse models, cell culture and stored omics data, these mutations were found to provide conditions favourable for oncogenesis, with irregular activity in Notch and p53 genes driving cell survival and replication.

Dr Sulima notes these as potential indicators for treatment vulnerability, and how possibly targeting mutated ribosomes themselves could tackle the drivers of cancers early.
