Dr Susan Webb speaks to ecancer.tv about the long term data from the Spanish acromegaly registry. This registry, established in 1997, contains data for over 1,600 patients and shows how improvements in treatment have been reflected in patient survival. Dr Webb discusses how treatment has changed since this registry has been implemented, emphasises the importance of having a small number of specialised surgeons and explains the role of radiotherapy and the benefits of new drugs that have been developed. Dr Webb concludes by outlining the effects and treatment options for Cushing’s disease, and discusses the challenges faced when treating patients with neuroendocrine or gastrointestinal tumours.
