Prof Heine Hansen talks about a pilot study called the Second Opinion Panel that has been set up with support from the Danish Health Minister. This study allows any cancer patients looking for a second opinion to have their information sent to central a panel of experts who assess it, consequently the patient does not need to visit two separate doctors. The panel reports back to the doctor either to agree, suggest more tests, or suggest specialist treatment or clinical trials available in Denmark or, if necessary, abroad. If the panel recommends treatment abroad, this will be funded by the Danish government.
