Nick Henderson - Aspirin Foundation UK

I’m Nick Henderson and I’m the Executive Director of the Aspirin Foundation which I founded, with others, about forty years ago, 1974 to be precise. That was the year when we discovered that aspirin not only cured headaches and aches and pains but also prevented a secondary heart attack if you’d had your first cardiac arrest. This was because it thins the platelets in the blood and prevents them clotting and it’s clots that caused the heart attacks. Subsequently we found they are also responsible for stroke and therefore it’s effective in stroke and heart disease. And I put this conference together, which is the 26th of the Aspirin Foundation, an international conference with speakers from all over the world, which will discuss new uses for aspirin, including HIV and cancers. This is ground-breaking work and the latest scientific research is going to be discussed in this meeting today.
