Prof Karim Fizazi - Institut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France

Dr Karim Fizazi talks to ecancer at ESMO 2026 about long-term overall survival findings from the phase 3 PEACE-1 trial, evaluating abiraterone acetate plus prednisone in men with de novo metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC).

After a median follow-up of 7.7 years, adding abiraterone to standard of care significantly improved overall survival, reducing the risk of death by 25%. Among patients receiving androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) plus docetaxel, adding abiraterone increased median overall survival from 4.4 to 6.2 years, with 8-year survival rates rising from 27.1% to 40.3%.

Dr Fizazi explores the implications of these results for treatment intensification, including the benefits of triplet therapy across metastatic-volume subgroups.

These extended findings reinforce the importance of combining systemic treatments to improve long-term survival outcomes for patients with mCSPC.
