UICC offers its first Master Course on palliative care in French

As part of its new Capacity Building track at the 2016 World Cancer Congress, UICC is launching its first Master Course in French.

The course will cover the topic of palliative care and pain management in Francophone Africa, a highly relevant issue in the region.

Much progress has been made to increase the rate of remission in many cancers, including in countries of Francophone Africa and the Mediterranean. However, the medical dimension as well as the psychological, social and cultural pain is still little discussed in these countries.

ecancer has previously provided e-learning courses for providers of palliative care in Africa, with the UICC's course broadening the perspective and accessibility into new locations and languages.

Supported by La Ligue contre le Cancer and L’Alliance des ligues francophones Africaines et Méditerranéennes contre le cancer (ALIAM) and delivered by the Université Numérique Francophone Mondiale (UNFM) and Université de Nantes, the course is intended for health carers, associations/public health programs leaders, advocates or journalists who want to learn key principles of pain management, not only in the context of cancer but also of other diseases.

The course comprises 20 hours of distance learning over a period of three to six months (June to October 2016) and is free of charge for Congress registered participants.

Upon successful completion of the Master Course, participants will meet during a workshop at the Paris Congress and receive a UICC certificate.

A series of other Master Courses, addressing topics such as tobacco cessation, cancer control planning, research dissemination or effective partnerships are proposed to strengthen the skills of Congress participants.

Participants have until the 31st of May to apply for the Master Course.
