Editorial board member Anne Merriman nominated for Nobel Prize

We are delighted to announce that Professor Anne Merriman, a valued member of ecancermedicalscience’s Editorial Board, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

As the Founder of Hospice Africa and Director of International Programmes at Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU), Professor Merriman’s work has significantly improved the quality of cancer care on the African continent.

Her efforts to establish simple and affordable pain control for African cancer patients have led to her advocacy of oral morphine, a culturally appropriate palliative care solution.

"Hopefully news of this nomination will bring even more on board to help,” Professor Merriman wrote in an open letter thanking her supporters. “This nomination for the Nobel Peace prize is in my name, but it is for you.” She has dedicated her nomination to all those who have worked with her to reduce suffering in Africa and across the world.

Professor Merriman’s nomination is a testimony to her compassion, integrity, and dedication to the cause of palliative care.
