ecancermedicalscience has just published an editorial on the current scientific publishing landscape in Latin America. Entitled “Small Journals”, indexes and ecancer: an opportunity for Latin America, the editorial describes the difficult decision faced by Latin American authors on whether to publish their research in small local journals or large international journals, where it is likely to receive wider visibility.
The author of the editorial, Dr Herbert Stegemann of the Hospital Vargas de Caracas, Venezuela, describes the recent progress in open access publishing in the region, evidenced by initiatives such as SciELO and RedALyC, and the opportunities that ecancer is providing for Spanish and Portuguese speakers worldwide, but particularly in Latin America.
