Thoracic surgery nursing group produces guidelines to prepare patients for lung resection
The United Kingdom National Lung Cancer Forum for Nurses Thoracic Surgical Group (TSG) has produced Guidelines to aid health care professionals in the preparation and support of patients undergoing a lung resection with an aim to promote patient self-management.
The guideline includes information on nutrition, smoking, multi-disciplinary rehabilitation, pain management and quality patient information.
“The Guideline includes information for health professionals providing examples of current best practice and information for patients,” says John White, the lead Macmillan Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist at Leeds Teaching Hospital in Leeds, U.K and also the Chair of the UK National Lung Cancer Forum for Nurses.
“The aim of the Guideline is to support self-management, support patients through the surgical pathway, and improve patient outcomes and patient experience.”
