It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of our Founder, Professor John Gordon McVie BSc (Hons), MBChB, M.D., FRCP, FRCPE, FRCPSGlas, FMedSci, DSc. Gordon was a hugely loved and well recognised figure in the world of cancer care who was always happy to help others whenever he could.

His endless curiosity and passion drove him to strive for improvement in the lives of cancer patients across the world, always prepared to fight for the underdogs and comfort those who need it most. After 40 years of clinical research, over 350 publications and positions with some of the leading global cancer organisations, he leaves a significant impact on the world making it a better place.

He set up ecancer with Prof Umberto Veronesi in 2007 which he nurtured and allowed to flourish under his leadership and guidance. He was extremely proud of what the organisation has achieved and its power to reach across the world supporting cancer patients everywhere.

His achievements in the world of cancer are only surpassed by his kindness, enthusiasm and his love for family and friends. A truly brilliant man.
