ecancer statement on COVID-19 pandemic

Dear friends and colleagues across the world,

The whole team at ecancer would like to express our deep gratitude to the dedicated healthcare professionals across the world, working tirelessly to keep us all safe under the most extraordinary of circumstances during the COVID-19 crisis.  We appreciate and are thankful for everything you do.

We want to especially mention our colleagues at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, where ecancer was born, who have faced such difficult circumstances over the past few weeks.

Given worldwide events, we have taken the decision to postpone our next oncology training event in Bogota, Colombia until later this year (date to be confirmed on ecancereventos.org).  Our next meeting is scheduled for July in Peru and we will be keeping this under review for the time being.

In such uncertain times, our mission to raise the standards of care for cancer patients across the world through education remains more important than ever, as those with underlying health conditions are one of the key at risk groups of COVID-19. Equally the need for free access to research with no paywalls has never been more pressing and we are proud to support the ongoing movement to democratise access to research and information.

In these difficult times it is more important than ever to keep information flowing about the latest in cancer research. With worldwide events being cancelled or postponed on a daily basis we are considering the best ways to keep the community up-to-date and we will be starting a new initiative to film brief interviews with key researchers and opinion leaders in oncology over the internet.

These videos will be filmed, edited and posted on ecancer.org completely free of charge and can cover all aspects of cancer research and treatment, as well as relevant updates on COVID-19 in relation to cancer patients.

If you would like to get involved and have something to share, please email news@ecancer.org.

Thank you once again to everyone fighting this pandemic. We are truly grateful.

With best wishes,

The ecancer team
