The results of the iManageCancer project have been collected for publication in a Special Issue published in ecancermedicalscience.


This Special Issue collects a series of articles that will explain the project, review the research landscape that surrounds it and provide insights for future development. 

Ranging from the development of "serious games", to reflections on the security of healthcare data, these articles will stimulate discussion across many disciplines.


 
The iManageCancer team has created a cancer disease self-management platform designed according to the specific needs of patients and focusing on their wellbeing which features four apps and a personalised health record website

Nine partners from five European countries have created intelligent, informative and fun ways to let those with chronic illnesses manage their health in a new way - using their smartphone.
 
"The work does not represent isolated solutions," says Stephan Kiefer of the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Germany, the Guest Editor of the Special Issue.  "All are integrated in an intelligent personal health record (iPHR) as the backbone that gathers the entire patient reported data, ready to share them with the healthcare team or to make them available for research under the full control of their owners."
 
The iManageCancer platform is currently being evaluated in a clinical pilot with breast and prostate cancer patients in Italy, and a clinical pilot with paediatric cancer patients in Germany.
