This module focuses on breast cancer screening, investigations and patient presentation.

This e-learning course covers best practices in breast cancer surgery. Experts from across the UK have contributed to ensure this course meets the educational needs of post-graduate surgical trainees looking to extend their knowledge on surgery in breast cancer. Developed in partnership between ecancer and Health Education South West to form an educational partnership called ePOSSOM.

Target audience

This course was developed to support the professional development of post-graduate surgical trainees.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand the process and rationale for the screening of breast cancer, including women at increased risk.
  • Know how to perform the triple assessment of breast pathology.
  • Have an appreciation of imaging techniques used in breast disease including indications, limitations and their role in staging.
  • Understand the indications for different biopsy techniques for breast tissue diagnosis including FNA, core biopsy, vacuum assisted mamotomy and open surgical biopsy.
  • Understand the MDT process and the correlation of pathology results with clinical and imaging findings.
