ESGO 2009 Gynaecological Cancer Meeting

Improving outcomes for patients; communicating research and care

Gynaecological cancers are the world’s fourth largest cancer killer of women. Each year, around one million women are diagnosed with gynaecological cancers worldwide compared to other major cancer killers such as lung cancer (1.4 million) and breast cancer (1.2 million). Together, these cancers (ovarian, cervix, womb and vulva) account for 10% of all cancers and have a mortality rate in excess of 65%.1

The European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) is a forum for professionals dedicated to improving the care of women affected by gynaecological cancer and a principal authority concerned with Gynaecological Oncology in Europe. The Society promotes communication with scientific and professional bodies to create a dynamic and democratic European platform of individual professionals including specialists, fellows and nurses for networking, sharing knowledge, and achieving high standards of professional gynecologic cancer care throughout Europe. ESGO also strives to improve research into prevention and early detection.

One of the most successful ways it achieves its goals is through organising biennial, international meetings. The upcoming 16th International Meeting of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO), October 11-14, 2009 in Belgrade, Serbia, already has an expected attendance of over 1,200 physicians, researchers and clinicians in the field. Colleagues will benefit from the latest available information presented by acclaimed global experts.

Topics to be covered include: New insights into the utility of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, immunology, and chemoprevention; potential and limitations of vaccines against common HPV types; and strategies for patient management.

The meeting features nearly 800 accepted poster presentations, 80 oral presentations, state-of-the-art lectures by over 50 invited gynaecological cancer experts, satellite symposia, meet the expert sessions, a multidisciplinary gynaecological cancer programme, breakthroughs in cancer research & care; sunrise sessions; and a new program for young researches.

Join us in Belgrade for a landmark meeting and a singular opportunity help improve the outcome for women affected by gynaecological cancer!
