New editorial exploring the effect of Brexit on cancer patient care, treatment and research

The authors of a new editorial which has just been published in ecancermedicalscience highlight the risks facing cancer care, treatment and research in a post-Brexit world.

UK cancer leaders Peter Selby, Mark Lawler, Richard Baird, Ian Banks, Patrick Johnston and Paul Nurse call for Brexit negotiations to consider how UK groups continue to play an active role in cross continental projects, how UK Institutions are able to attract and keep international staff and how to handle regulatory issues going forward.

The main concern of many healthcare professionals is, as the authors state, that "If when the Brexit negotiations are complete the UK government doesn't step up to fill the gaps in law, regulation, resource allocation and strategic alliances, cancer research and cancer patients will suffer."
