Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Centre

About

Created in 1951 as a USSR government institute but operating as an independent unit since 2001, the Blohkin is one of the largest research and treatment cancer centres in Russia.

The aim of the institute is to conduct fundamental and applied scientific research in the precancerous diseases and tumours while providing top quality medical care to patients. The institute undertakes research in the field of tumour cell biology, mechanisms of carcinogenesis and tumour progression (molecular, virological, chemical, physical, genetic, cellular, and immunological aspects). It also carries out experimental and clinical development of new technologies in surgical treatment of cancer, and works to develop new drugs and diagnostics, radiation and combined therapy, as well as researching preventative measures. A key specialist area of the unit is paediatric oncology.
