Dr Krishnamani Kalpathi

Dr Kalpathi works as a Consultant Medical Oncologist at the American Oncology Institute, Hyderabad, India. His speciality training was at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad from 2011—2014. His areas of interest include cancers of the breast and lung, immunotherapy, TKI’s and managing adverse events, Molecular genomic profiling for cancer and educating nurses and junior colleagues.

Dr Kaplathi was a recipient of the Translational Research Unit (TRU) fellowship at IRCCS National Cancer Institute, Milan, Italy in 2014 and several ESMO preceptorships.

A few recent academic highlights include: work on anti-cancer drug price regulation in India: Financial
implications and annual savings to patients, was accepted as proferred paper at the ESMO 2021 annual congress in Paris.  “Crowd funding in Cancer in India- A much needed financial therapy but needs checkpoints” was selected as a poster at ESMO 2022. His abstracts entitled “Impact of COVID-19 and lockdown on adherence to treatment schedule among Cancer patients” and “Challenges faced by Cancer patients during the COVID 19 pandemic”-were accepted for a poster and travel grant at ESMO ASIA 20202. “Seroconversion following first and second dose of COVID-19 vaccination among cancer patients- A prospective longitudinal observational study from India on the effectiveness of COVID vaccines” was accepted for e-publication at ASCO 2022.

He has authored articles in reputed Journals, chapters in books and been a speaker at National and International events. With a strong passion to teach, his endeavour has been to train nurses, paramedics and junior Doctors in areas such as Chemotherapy administration, Oncologic emergencies, management of Immunotherapy adverse events, and conducting seminars and workshop sessions. He has been involved with Piramal Swasthya (a NGO working on Cancer at the grassroots level), in training Primary Health care providers in Cancer care, screening and early detection. He has also been a reviewer for many Journals and an advisor in the academic space. Dr Kalpathi is a member of both ASCO and ESMO, and a part of their various voluntary services in advancement of cancer care.
