ASCO 2026: Updates in renal cancer
Dr Stefano Avanzini speaks to ecancer about a prospective study evaluating image-defined risk factors as predictors of surgical outcomes in children with neuroblastic tumours.
He reports that incomplete tumour resection occurred in approximately 42% of patients, with both the IDRF score and the number of individual risk factors associated with surgical outcomes.
Dr Avanzini explains that the total number of IDRFs emerged as the strongest independent predictor of incomplete tumour resection, while higher scores also showed a trend towards increased perioperative complications.
These findings support quantitative assessment of IDRFs as a potentially useful tool for surgical risk stratification and preoperative planning in children with neuroblastic tumours.
