This module focuses on how to assess tobacco dependence and smoking behaviour, including; An overview of the Fagerstrom Test for Cigarette Dependence assessment and exercises to help you understand a typical day for a smoker, their motives and their relationship with cigarettes.

This e-learning course is comprised of 8 modules exploring how to deliver an effective cessation programme to your patients. The content was developed alongside experts in Tobacco Cessation from King's College London.

Target audience

This module is for health professionals/students looking to expand their knowledge in the field of tobacco addiction with a focus on tobacco dependence treatment.

Learning objectives

Participants will gain knowledge and understanding of:

  • Assessments of tobacco dependence and smoking behaviour; specifically:
    • Fagerstrom Test for Cigarette Dependence
    • Heaviness of Smoking Index
  • How to elicit information to understand a typical day of a smoker and the relationship the person has with smoking cigarettes/tobacco
