Prof Sam Aparicio - University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada

Prof Aparicio talks to ecancer at the IMProving care And Knowledge through Translational research (IMPAKT) meeting in Brussels, May 2012, about new targets for breast cancer drugs and new aspects of endocrine therapy.

Prof Aparicio also covers his recent landmark study on the classification of breast cancer, emphasising what he sees as the keys points perhaps missed by some. The study, based on the genetic finger print of tumours taken from 2000 breast cancers patients, reclassified breast cancer into at least 10 distinct categories of disease.

The landmark study, published online in Nature, has been heralded as having the potential to create a new treatment paradigm that should allow doctors to eventually better tailor treatments to individual breast cancers patients.
