Prof Sean Kehoe speaks to ecancer at BGICC 2019 in Cairo about a new FIGO (Fédération Internationale de Gynécologie et d’Obstétrique) staging system in vulval and cervical cancer.
He explains that one of the issues for many years has been stage 1 patients with disease that is positive or negative and has spread to the lymph glands or the pelvis are all still classed as stage 1 despite differing outcomes.
Prof Kehoe states that these women may now be considered stage 3 and that imaging and pathological staging can be followed to determine this.
