Mary Wells – University of Dundee, UK and EONS

Mary Wells of the European Oncology Nursing Society and the University of Dundee talks to ecancertv about patient reported outcomes and their use in a clinical setting.

Often clinicians focus on hard outcomes such as survival, toxicity and response, while patient reported outcomes evaluate how the patient feels and what they want outside of the clinical goals

A patient reported outcome is used synonymously with the term ‘quality of life’, but it extends further. Quality of life is reduced into a single aggregate score but does not tell you about the issues facing the individual.
