Evolving treatment options in castration-resistant prostate cancer
Prof Gordon Mcvie, Prof Johann De Bono, Prof Bertrand Tombal, Prof Juergen Gschwend, Dr Maria De Santis
This expert panel discussion relates to the recent 'Second Prostate Cancer Debate' meeting, held in London. The panel discuss the unmet clinical needs for the CRPC patient and the evolving treatment landscape for patients with CRPC, focusing on traditional hormone therapy and the role of chemotherapy such as docetaxel.
They review the current clinical data with androgen biosynthesis inhibitors and the latest data on novel therapies discussed at the meeting including the potential impact on daily clinical practice. They also look to the future of prostate cancer care, such as adjuvant therapy with abiraterone, use of cabozantinib, and the future of imaging.

ecancer Managing Editor Prof Gordon McVie interviews Prof Anwar Padhani about the latest in cancer imaging and the future, at the recent 'Second Prostate Cancer Debate' meeting, London. They cover qualitative and quantitative imaging, functional imaging, FDHT-PET, MRI and discuss how moving into a new era for castration resistant treatment, imaging for prostate cancer is becoming more important and radiologists are responding to that change. They also cover molecular imaging, including the imaging of cell death, and the possibility of pre-malignant imaging.

John Clare (Medical Journalist) chairs the Prostate Panel Discussion at the first Prostate Cancer Debate, Berlin Germany. The panel constitutes 5 leading experts expressing their opinions on what drives improvements in cancer care. Clare opens the discussion with ‘What is it that drives cancer drug development?’ The discussion gives you an insight into the opinion of the Urologist, Oncologist, Industry and Medical Institute. The panel look at drug development; clinical studies; scientific communication on new advances; medical societies role and partnership and co-operation in general. Ending the debate on the expert’s opinion of the future of cancer care and how they would like it to have progressed 15 years from now.

Dr Bertrand Tombal – Saint-Luc Hospital, Brussels, Belgium; Dr Dominik Berthold – Multidisciplinary Oncology Center, Lausanne, Switzerland; Dr Amit Bahl – Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, UK; Dr Florian Scotte – Hopital Europeen Georges Pompidou, Paris, France
After presenting at EMCC 2011 in Stockholm, Dr Tombal, Dr Bethold, Dr Bahl and Dr Scotte answer questions from the audience about hormone therapy and castration resistant prostate cancer.
Dr Tombal concludes the discussion from the symposium with take-home messages such as how nomograms can help to predict overall survival for patients, the relationship between pain and PSA response, CTC correlation with overall survival as compared with PSA kinetics and changes to the paradigm of treatment for mCRPC.

Dr Florian Scotte – Hopital Europeen Georges Pompidou, Paris, France
Discussing patient palliative care at EMCC 2011 in Stockholm, Dr Scotte opens with the definition of ‘supportive case’ as the prevention and management of the adverse effects of cancer and its treatment.
From here, Dr Scotte discuss the importance and effects of early palliative care and the need for discussion between doctors, nurses and patients about the best course of treatment for each individual.
