P5 medicine: a plus for a personalised approach to oncology

The March issue of Nature contained several papers on the topic of personalised medicine.  ecancer is particularly interested in this field, not only because of the future benefits to the cancer community, but also because we are a partner in a European Project, called P-medicine, on this very topic http://www.ecancermedicalscience.com/european-projects-home.asp. We are working in partnership with a team from the University of Milan who are leading the way in the exploring the psycho-cognitive impact of personalised medicine.

Gabriella Pravettoni and Alessandra Gorini argued eloquently that personalised medicine shouldn’t only embrace a P4 approach, as proposed in Nature, encompassing predictive, personalised, preventative and participatory aspects.  Gabriella and Alessandra pointed out that another “P” should be added to ensure a P5 approach including psycho-cognitive aspects as well.  To access the full article please visit http://p-medicine.eu/fileadmin/p-medicine/public_website/news/NatureGoriniPravettoni.pdf.

Working alongside Gabriella and Alessandra will help ensure that the patient empowerment tools that ecancer is developing, in partnership with our collaborators in the P-medicine project, will fully embrace all of the different aspects of personalised medicine.  Together we will ensure that patient empowerment is at the forefront as the personalised medicine revolution takes shape.
